AAUP-Ohio State's Work to #StopSB83
Since the 2022-23 school year, AAUP-Ohio State has been working hard to counter Ohio legislature's SS 83 (and the accompanying HB151), which would profoundly alter education at Ohio's 14 universities and 23 colleges. If passed into law, this bill would severely limit free speech, undermine values of outreach and inclusion, threaten tenure and academic freedom, and introduce authoritarian standards into education at OSU.
See this Sept. 15, 2023 post from the Ohio branch of AAUP about the latest (eighth) version of the bill--what's stayed the same and what's changed.
AAUP-Ohio State and our partner groups have had a profound effect in turning out testimonies and fighting this bill. We've had significant victories, and we'll continue with our advocacy. Watch for our emails to membership for updates on what's going on at the statehouse and how you can continue to fight back.
Follow us on social media, along with Ohio Conference AAUP and Honesty for Ohio Education, for the latest news and perspective.

Save Ohio Higher Ed
In 2020, our AAUP chapter co-founded Save Ohio Higher Ed (SOHE). This group aims to preserve higher education as a public good for all Ohioans and ensure fair practices for faculty, staff, and students. Working with other AAUP chapters, students, public policy experts, and K-12 advocates, SOHE holds regular online forums on important current issues and builds coalitions towards action. Find descriptions and recordings of past forums on the SOHE page. All are welcome to forums regardless of AAUP membership.
